Aleks is right about them being right. Pragmatics says that in this context the if must be read as an iff, else the information in (a) would not be relevant with respect to the information in (b).

This is because they all went on a wine tasting tour in Sonoma before writing that part of it.

Maybe next summer or so. Depends on too many factors to tell right now.  :'(

Maybe in five years or so, as a junior professor! (If I learn how to do fundraising till then)

Shrill. Loud. Okay, maybe not all that loud, but piercing. Although I don't want that - it does not sound nice, as I said. No idea about amplifiers. How do you plug one onto a clarinet? :)

Uh, no. A professor who is too busy to write a student a recommendation letter is also too busy to play music.

Shopping:

- Lebkuchen (zartbitter, bitte)
- Spekulatius (ohne Butter, ohne Mandeln)
- Marzipanstollen
- Dominosteine
- anderes Weihnachtsgebäck nach Wunsch
- drinks: KiBa, water, apple juice etc... ask sb else...

-> You'll probably get all of this at Tengelmann, just half an hour before the party. When do we want to start anyways? I'm free after 6 o' clock.

I can be loud. But it doesn't sound too nice.

HOOOORAY! Finally! I mean, I haven't properly practised for 2 1/2 years now, but I can do something over the weekend  ::) , and after all, improvisation is the keyword, isn't it? What about violoncello and viola (Johannes and Dominikus)? Can we fit them in anywhere? In case they want to? And where are we going to play at all? And does anyone know anyone who plays the violin? (If so, I'll condemn Johannes, Dominikus and the yet unknown fiddler to play a tango I composed years ago with me some time...)

I heard the rumour that there will be a jam session at the Christmas Party - is that true? I'll be there, in that case!

Thanks for trying. I'll be there if you manage to get people to agree on a date, and I'll help with decoration and preparations.

Student: "Die nächste Analyse, die Davidson betrachtet, ist die von Kissholm (Chisholm), oder wie spricht man den aus?"

"Store this in your memory"

"A Java compiler would say WHAT?! Singular what? Singular string? Stringular number?"

"Java was developed by really serious peolple who worked for a real company. Perl was developed by hackers who just threw in lots of different things."

Monologue about console command "finger":
"So who are you fingering? If you're fingering yourself... ...everything you want people to see of you if they finger you is in .plan..."

Kilian: "What actually happens if you finger on ['juːnɪks]?" (not much, probably)

Because it's long after Halloween. I mean, you can come dressed up as whatever you like, but... I wouldn't want to frighten the Erstis with dark costumes donned without apparent reason.

So:

We won't have a Halloween party. Instead, we will have a 1st-semester-party after the Ersti-weekend, most probably on Friday next week. That leaves enough time to announce it - *on* the Ersti-weeend, presumably; Aleks, could you take care of that? - and to prepare whatever needs to be prepared. No costumes, then.

I'm starting to get so weary of it, I'd like to drop the issue altogether. I'm all for Wednesday, at an early hour. But who cares?  >:(

I'm not going there. They smoke all the time, and I'm prone to ruin my lungs anyway. Right, guests. So you suggest Thursday or Friday. I don't mind and I'm not the person to decide this - besides, I'm really weary of this! State your opinion, everybody, and come to a conclusion!

Another option (which, I think, includes at least 1 barkeeper attending): early on Wednesday, so that people can leave and go on to other parties, but will still be at ours...

(Edgar Allan Poe)

(auch wenn ich damit nicht übereinstimme)

Well, those two people were going to be our barkeepers... anyone else for that job? Let's just do it on Halloween, then. Procrastinating the decision is getting annoying.

Halloween seems to be out of question. So WHEN? Some suggestions:

- next Tuesday, the day before Halloween (bad because there are classes the next day)
- next Thursday, the day after Halloween (bad because it's a holiday and people might be leaving for the weekend early)
- next Friday (bad out of the same reasons as Thursday)
- next Wednesday after all?

DISCUSS, and I mean it!

Ye-es... Well, one of them has been cancelled, but there's still two. If the party is added, it'll be three, and while I *am* capable of being at two places at the same time, three is a bit difficult...

Do we have a date and time yet? Not this Friday, definitely. I don't have any time. I should be in 3 places at the same time...

So viel Geld, Meeensch...

People,
I honestly apologize, and I'm really very sorry, but I won't be able to come to that meeting. There is a dancing class starting this week...  :-[ Really sorry... well, I suppose you'll manage without me. I'm not that indispensable.
