Revised: I will be there, provided that I've risen from the dead again (I'm not gonna be much alive after two consecutive exams on Thursday... that's also the reason why I'm not going anywhere after all...).

hum... sorry to say so, but I'll probably not be there... no c-y-cake, either, because I'm leaving on Thursday evening... anyway, if there's anything that can be done while cramming for exams at the same time, tell me and I'll gladly help...

Jaja... Liebe ist eine Weltsprache... *what* nice *proposal*?  Sthg we have to know? ;) Of course I have that specific seminar in mind, but I think it could generally help... also to make them invite good lecturers (like Shravan Vasishth) more often!

General topics / Evaluation for block seminars?
« on: 2007-02-03 18:34:46 »
As every year, there will be block seminars taught in the week after the end of the WiSe and also in the week before the SoSe starts. I've attended several such block seminars throughout my life as a student and never once was handed an evaluation form at the end of such a seminar (in contrast to the ones we have to fill out for every regular seminar...). However, if these seminars are never evaluated, some of them will be taught year after year by the same person in the same manner without ever improving - in some cases, you could call that stagnation tragical. I suggest the Fachschaft take care that these seminars are treated like the regular ones even in that respect: either ask the people in charge of evaluation to consider these seminars, too, or get some evaluation forms, hand them out and collect them ourselves and then give them to whoever usually evaluates them (confront them with the facts ;))...

If we're really legally allowed to do that, then what L.L. is doing with the T.T. exams is illegal - keeping them in so next year's students won't be able to look at them (and he'll probably be able to reuse them)... what should the Fachschaft do in such a case? In general, I like the idea very much.

True. But "keep him from starving" sounds so much more dramatical---  :D But let's stop this, it's really OT.

The date sounds okay to me, there's the weekend in-between, in any case. And if even I'm saying it's okay, who else should object?  ;D I hereby explicitly allow Aleks and Guy to break the glasses left from the candles  *iff* they can find someone who's getting married to honour with that slightly destructive act :D . If I manage to, I can finally bake a CYCake... my last exam is on Thursday, so...

Yesssssssssssssss! Let's tell them to organize one of the Clubhausfeste - and let us be in charge of the bar!!! (Can anybody explain to me why I, the absolute antialcoholic, am so keen on this?  ::) ) I can't see why a poet should not need punctuation marks, and I know *something* about poetry... Johannes, I really should have returned with better shoes, but I was just so tired... :-\

Hi everybody! This was a great success  :D ! Thanks to all who had a share in making this work! And next year is gonna be even better because we now know we need to buy more alcohol...  ;) The coathangers are not mine, but Kilian's, so you better ask him where to put them. The glasses can be thrown away if nobody wants to keep them; I will have more than enough until next year. Johannes, sorry for not staying to help cleaning (next time, I'll bring a spare pair of shoes in which I can actually walk...  :-[ ) ... And about not putting the tables in the correct order, but as I arrived after they had been rearranged last afternoon, I had no idea about what the room looked like earlier. Hope you can forgive me this one time... About the scarf: Maybe it's still behind the pillar where all the coats were piled up? If nobody else wants them, I'd like to keep the spectrograms.

Argh, why did I go to bed so early? I didn't read this, and so I forgot to ask. I might be able to get Japanese from Anne and a bunch of funny exotic languages from Johannes in Pragmatics tomorrow... Did anybody (Guy?) see HT today about the spectrograms? If not, I'll have to ask him tomorrow...

Guy wollte sogar mit HT sprechen, ob man noch Sätze aufnehmen u. ausdrucken könne ("If you are too drunk to read this..." / "If these lines look straight to you - the bar is over there..." usw.). Weiß nicht, ob das noch zustande kommt; was sagt ihr dazu?

I don't have any, sorry. This (alas copyrighted) would be very nice for our room.

I will bring a cute little green cashbox, a blue cooler and in it about 25 - 30 table lanterns to be completed by the tea lights Jon promised to bring. I made them from glasses for preserved fruit, wrapped around with white *Butterbrotpapier* - three types of lanterns, round, triangular and oval in shape. Armin, be prepared! ;)

PS: Look at the weather outside! Aleks, is it snowing on your desktop, too?

No, please, let me build some trees! If you want to, build a DRT, too. Is it okay if I write that Ede's tie is *declared* and *initialized* in a local DRS, and that's why you can't refer to it from outside?  ;)

Guy, are you trying to write poetry? Looks like it  ;) Let's take these lines, analyse them syntactically and make our decoration trees out of them! Question: TuBa-Dz-style or IntroGenLing style?

- ice: 20 - 25 kg
- coolers: as many as possible, if you have one bring it
- refrigerators: at least one
- the 4 old monitors from the Verfügungsgebäude's basement
- flags of all the countries we have students from; if you own a flag, please lend it to us for decoration purposes
- shakers and other mixing devices; punch bowls?
- buckets and icepicks
- a person with a car to go shopping for all the stuff at Metro's this Saturday together with Guy
- volunteers for cutting lemons ;-)

Hey, Aleks, think of the poor antialcoholics! And of the even more pitiable people who have to drive back home! We need at least a few drinks that are "safe" for these folks, and KiBa is a good start. Maybe one of you could think of something with grapes, but no alcohol in it? (please, do me a favour... ;-) As for the linguistics cocktail, good idea (and it means a lot if I'm supporting such a thing *g*). Go ahead and be creative!

Parties and Events / Deck the halls with coathangers...
« on: 2007-01-15 23:10:14 »
I'll be glad to do something about the decoration - and maybe also the cleanup, as I'd be completely useless at the bar. I suggest we...

...get some flags from all the countries we've got students from, plus a map of the world, to decorate the walls and emphasize that we're *international* *yippieh* (well, okay, that's not too creative, but more stuff is following...)

... then, we could revive the syntactic tree or even open up a tree nursery (but put together a reasonable sentence this time, with some relation to partying) - and, in case we are allowed to have food in our room as long as we're not explicitly selling it, an edible parsing chart - a C Y Cake! ;-) (I'm dying to get this crazy idea of mine realized somewhere - do brownies as the chart fields and decorate with Russisch Brot...)

...if we have some old monitors and stuff, we can maybe get something done with them as well (ideas? - In case we get some and they still work - Aleks, could you devise a way to run some fancy graphics stuff on them, like the nice psychedelic patterns Anne once created? And pllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, do bring your beloved show-off genius@work computer, then you can put a different fancy pattern on each desktop and display them on the old monitors!!!)

Okay, enough creativity for today, still gotta finish my soup and do my Turkish homework. Greetings and please do add more suggestions!

I would like to be on the helpers list, of course, but as the person who always orders mineral water without lemon, I'm not sure whether I'd be of any use at the bar... So this means I'm probably volunteering for the clean-up job...
