Torsten auf der TaCoS 2009: Was ich hier mit "Fremdwörter" euphemistisch bezeichnet habe, sind Helvetismen, also Wörter, die sich die Schweizer über die Jahrhunderte hinweg ausgedacht haben.

Und er sagte noch mehr:

[Mit dieser automatischen Textanalyse kann man die entsprechenden Orte auf der Karte markieren], historische Routen durchwandern und sich dann historisch... fühlen.

Wäre man im 17. Jahrhundert gekommen und hätte gesagt, komm, lass ma aufn Berg gehen, dann hätten die gesagt, mja, lass ma.

Alle zwei Semester gibt es eine Intensivwoche. Da zieht man sich in die Alpen auf eine einsame Hütte zurück. Ohne Internet. Und muss dann Korpora annotieren.

Nobody in their right mind uses anything that is readable by a human being.

15 years ago there wouldn't have bee the Computational Semantics to do it, and there wouldn't have been the Wikipedia to do it.

Moving to a logic with a higher expressive power does not necessarily entail disaster.

In Twin Peaks, nobody is what they appear to be, so you get into intensional aspects.

Wenn die Verkehrsgesellschaft eine neue Haltestelle erfindet, muss die Frau, die die Haltestellen eingesprochen hat, noch einmal ins Studio und muss die neue Haltestelle einsprechen mit einer zehn Jahre älteren Stimme. So lange dauert es nämlich, eine neue Haltestelle einzuführen.

Wenn Porsche jetzt sagt: Wir wollen, dass unser Navi toll und angeberisch klingt wie alles bei Porsche... und nicht so wie bei BMW...

Manche leuchten, wenn man sie liest. (Zusammenhang nicht überliefert. Kommentar von Laura: Goethe nicht – er fragte nach mehr Licht.)

Aleks is right about them being right. Pragmatics says that in this context the if must be read as an iff, else the information in (a) would not be relevant with respect to the information in (b).

A lot of the sentences you come across is simply nonsense and you have to make sense of them.

a. If she has an essay to write she will study late in the library.
b. She will study late in the library.
c. She has an essay to write.
In an experiment by Byrne, 71% of the participants said c follows from a and b. Aleks is surprised that the number isn't even higher.
Anas: I would go a step further and say they're right.

Even if you throw an atomic bomb, the non-effects are vastly greater than the effects.
