Chinese! Chinese!
« on: 2007-02-13 18:11:28 »
As I just heard from Katya, Elena Bilan will offer a course of elementary Chinese in the next semester.

Some people from the previous year took this course and are said to be very pleased with the course.

People interested have to form a group beforehand and tell Hubert Truckenbrodt.

Well, I'm in! Spread the word and make yourself heard if you want to learn some Chinese as well.

That's really fantastic news, thanks, Kilian

In principle, I'd be interested, but: I don't even manage to learn the Turkish vocabulary, let alone any Russian I *should* learn, and there's still the option of becoming semantics tutor (in case HT doesn't find anyone else)... So I can't promise anything.  :-[

Great. I am "in" as well.

Chinese... that's close to English, right?

That might be true! They are both so different from my native language that they are close in a way :)

What are you doing at 6:30 in the morning, anyway? Go get some sleep.

Oh, and I forgot to ask, when we say Chinese.. are we talking about Mandarin or Cantonese?

Sleep is on the schedule! It's... um, let me take a look... it's due to Friday!

:D

I think it's Mandarin, but I'll ask Elena tomorrow... today. Whatever.

Mandarin, as for the conversational course. She had a grammar course as well when she was teaching that for the first time, where mentioned the different tone system of Cantonese without going too deeply into it.

Hey, these are great news. I hope, I will find time to participate in the next semester.
It all depends on how my Japanese course will work out during the semester break.
But in general, I would definitely give my vote for such a great opportunity!

Thanks,
D.

Bad news...

I just talked to Elena and Hubert and Hubert was pretty pessimistic...

Kilian, how come you spread such rumors?  >:(

 :D

Well... could we manage to find someone with a B.A. or the like who is willing to teach at least some language?

Hey, hey, that was not a rant ;)

It's a pity, but for now it seems like this is not going to happen...  :-\

I am in as well, if such a course is offered. It will be really very nice, if we have it....

What do you mean by "pessimistic", Aleks? Is it money? Could a list of names of people who're willing to participate change something?

Well, it's more about "human resources". The thing is (as far as I understood it), Elena's already taking part in Hubert's project, so he doesn't think she'll have the time to give some Chinese lessons.

He said that if we find someone else (graduated) that would be able to give some lessons this would not be a problem. But he doesn't seem to be fond of giving us a share on Elena :)
